Homoeopathy

What is Homeopathy?

Homoeopathy is a science discovered in 1796 by German doctor, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a different approach to the cure of sick, which he called "Homoeopathy" (from the Greek words meaning "similar suffering"). Homoeopathy is a science successfully serving the sick, while accepting the challenges of modern lifestyles with changing manifestations and patterns of diseases.

It works on 5 cardinal principles

  1. Similia Similibus Curenter - a medicine which has the capacity to cause the disease also has capacity to cure the disease. In other words, every homoeopathic medicine is a disease-causing agent if not prescribed correctly or not in confirmation with the principles.
  2. Law of Simplex - one single medicine at a time.
  3. Law of minimum dose - minimum possible repetition of remedy.
  4. Hering's Law of cure - mere absence of symptoms does not mean cure. The Signs & Symptoms should disappear in the exactly opposite order of their appearance.
  5. Theory of Drug Dynamisation - Method for preparation of Homoeopathic Medicines.

Holistic approach

Almost all the doctors, irrespective of the `System of Medicine' they practice, have come to the conclusion that one must go beyond signs and symptoms in order to treat a patient. The patient's psyche or mindset, his nature, and temperament, lifestyle, reaction to stress, contribute a lot in causing diseases. Pathology is not the only thing one should consider while treating a patient. . Of course, a Homoeopath does consider pathogenesis, pathology of the disease, but he goes far beyond pathology considering pathology to be one of the steps of disease evolution and giving mind the highest importance in his analysis. While treating a patient, a homoeopath has to first understand about patient's mind, lifestyle, socio- economic status, genetic predisposition, psycho- sexual status, thinking pattern, relations with his parents, spouse, children, friends and also about his behavioral pattern. From all these things he has to understand the patient's mental makeup.

Then comes the patient's physical built. The homoeopath has to consider the patient's desires and aversions, reaction to heat and cold etc. and lastly about the disease or diseases the patient has, how they evolved, what were the causative factors, what are factors modifying the disease etc. The doctor must also understand about the active pathogenesis of your disease, the exact series of changes taking place in the body during the disease process, complications of the same and any other supplementary therapy the patient needs apart from the homoeopathic medicine and so on(auxiliary management.)

Keeping all these things in view the homoeopath has to select one single remedy, which has the capacity to act on all the above-mentioned factors. The one who is qualified and has the capacity to take all these efforts, who has understood homoeopathy to this extent is an Ideal True Homoeopath. Homoeopathy believes that there are diseased individuals who need treatment and not individual diseases. This is a basic difference between homoeopathy and allopathy. We consider man as a whole and not diseased parts or organs.

When the disease-the pathology-gets maximum importance while selecting a remedy, then there is a separate remedy for running nose, another remedy for throat pain and so on. In this type of treatment where is the holistic approach? This is nothing but giving `white sweet pills' on allopathic principles. It will only suppress the disease, not cure.

Awareness about Homeopathy

The increasing popularity of homoeopathy, however, does not necessarily mean that there is a growing awareness about homoeopathy and its principles. Rather, there are many misconceptions about homoeopathy in the people's minds. Merely taking `white sweet pills' does not mean you are undergoing homoeopathic treatment. The homoeopath has to consider `N' number of things before he selects a remedy for you.Once that medicine is administered, he has to confirm whether it is acting in the proper direction and whether the selected potency and dose suits your personality or not. However, some people claim to have understood homoeopathy thoroughly just by reading few books on the subject, without having any knowledge about psychology, psychiatry, human anatomy, physiology, pathology, medicine, surgery, gynaecology, obstetrics, E.N.T., ophthalmology. How can one think of having proper judgments about the patient's constitution just by reading a few books? Medicine prescribed on wrong basis will show adverse effects. Your running nose may disappear but you will get sinusitis after some time. Your throat pain may disappear but breathlessness may come up.

One cannot predict as to how and what adverse effects a remedy based on wrong indications will cause. It simply carries the superficial disease to dipper layers. This is nothing but suppression, and it can happen with homoeopathy when the medicine is prescribed on wrong principles.

If used properly, in the proper place by proper person, it will show miraculous results, but in wrong hands it will just ruin health. People say that homoeopathy does not have side effects. Yes!, but it has direct effect on your body, which may be good, or bad depending on who prescribes the medicine & how?.

So isn't it always better to go to a qualified, registered homoeopathic practitioner rather than to a non-medico person who practices homoeopathy as a hobby?

Insist on one single medicine at a time because that is one of the basic principles of homoeopathy.

Also keep your self away from all the products by different homoeopharmacies for piles, tonsils, dentition problems, gastric complaints, warts or pimples. Don't run behind these advertisements because these medicines are nothing but mixtures of five to fifteen medicines which may relieve one problem but lead to another.

Cure According to homeopathy

Mere dissappearance of symptoms does not mean cure. According to homeopathy, your mind and body should function in harmony. This is a state of health. If there is any disturbance in this harmony-it is disease

Only when a homeopath has proper perception about his patient, and about the sciences that is all clinical, para-clinical sciences and homeopathy can come to a correct conclusion about the treatment but that is not all. The doctor also has to decide about the potency of medicine, it's dose, repetition, and relationship with other remedies to be used at different states and only then can he bring the cure according to 'Herings law of cure'. The Hering's law of cure is one of the basic principle of homeopathy which states how the signs and symptoms should dissappear when a proper remedy is administered.

The homeopath has to keep a watch on whether his patient is progressing towards cure or his disease is being suppressed.

In conclusion Homeopathy

hat the patient needs is only one medicine at a time and not a mixture of medicines to suppress complaints.

Health is to be restored by giving proper medicines on correct indications and principles, in correct potency, and repetition, by properly assessing the sequence of dissappearance of symptoms.

Strictly avoid use of mixtures of homeopathic medicines and so-called specifics.

Don't get yourself treated from quacks; consult a registered homeopath and not a retired person who practices homeopathy as a hobby.

Avoid self-medication and use of different marketed products. These are shortcuts to ill health.

Homeopathy does not have any side effects - Yes.

But it has direct effects, good or bad!
